National Geographic Store Information Technology
November 3rd, 2008
The IT project aims to complement the spatial experience of the NG store through the insertion of instruments capable of conveying the extraordinary media production of National Geographic and delivering it to the users in a highly interactive manner.
A number of screens, for example, offer to the public the opportunity to follow live some of the ongoing National Geographic missions around the world, while the rest of the IT system provides regular information about NG through the use of media featuring the latest technology, such as high definition screens and sound systems. Like in the photographic laboratories of the National Geographic HQ in Washington DC, where IT tools are customized ad-hoc for the specific missions, the in-store technology is largely customized to optimize the performance of individual media, such as photography, video and audio, all areas for which National Geographic excellence is worldwide recognized.
The store features a HD capable A/V distribution system and all the contents are managed by a digital signage system spanning 42 displays. It distributes video content throughout the store according to managed schedules and plays content from centralized media players.
