Research book for the re-qualification of a former software company straddling Ticinese park in Milan.
Lagare spa commissioned the project as a design study for the present, as well as the near and distant future, for that part of Ripa di Porta Ticinese, to drum up interest in the private and public sectors.
Ripa 77 programmatic mixture serves the local neighborhood while enhancing the public realm of Navigli area.

Mobile Display Unit

The Mobile Display Unit (MDU) is basically a computer that can be placed anywhere in the store to display a wide array of content formats on a variety of screen types (lcd, projectors, plasma, TBD). It should be as flexible as possible, it is a tool for the store and be prepared for unexpected future scenarios and applications.
It is mobile in the sense that it has no fixed location in the store, rather it can be placed by the merchendising staff or art director in various places as needs be.

A mobile digital media display unit, custom designed for National Geographic Store in London. This digital sculpture is conceived as a standalone windows display, with four monitors on both sides and a custom computer, in order to display its content both toward the outside and the inside simultaneously.
The overall design is inspired by an idea of superimposition of mechanical and electronics aesthetics, resulting in a kind of wired machine made by mild-steel, screws, wheels, handmade custom-tailored cables and connectors, displaying images, colors, TV broadcasting, and information, turning it in a real multimedia unit.

Catalog concept and production for the Gas Jeans Adv Campaign Fall Winter ’09.
Just one month after the successful opening of their first store in London, National Geographic celebrated its beginnings as a presence in Asia with the opening of the flagship store in Singapore, designed entirely by APRIL. Completing a second store not only allows for the implementation of an updated and improved version of the concept but is the beginning of a network of digital presence consisting of the London, and Singapore stores and eventually the web site. In addition, the digital identity could be expanded further beyond the laboratory setting of the stores. The functionality could be extended to also include the show rooms and eventually the entire supply chain. The goal is not performance increase, but enriched and improved communications both internally and externally.

An eclectic black environment of almost 2,000 square meters houses several retail programs from publishing, video, maps, camera & optics, to apparel, home-furnishings and accessories. It also includes a conference auditorium, a travel agency and a Café.
Lighting and finishing materials are conceived to reduce energy consumption and to act as air purifiers through a natural photosynthesis process.

A hardware device for testing sunglasses and displaying panoramas. On the inner surface there are screens or a lumisheet light box for mounting transparencies, and a mirror.
The outer surface is illuminated product display shelving.

“Odysseys and Photographs — Masters from the National Geographic Archives,” is a new photography exhibit organized by the National Geographic Museum, featuring the work of legendary photographers Maynard Owen Williams, Luis Marden, Volkmar Wentzel and Thomas Abercrombie. Through the exhibit’s nearly 60 photographs, many of which lay hidden for decades in the National Geographic archives, visitors will be able to travel with Williams to Greenland in the 1920s, see a different side of the Caribbean with Marden, look through Wentzel’s lens as he spent nearly two years traversing India and witness a changing Middle East with Abercrombie. The spectacular images portray a dazzling array of people and places and bring the world into focus through a unique and fascinating perspective. Odysseys and Photographs, Masters from the National Geographic Archives is organized and produced by the National Geographic Museum, Washington, DC.
The IT project aims to complement the spatial experience of the NG store through the insertion of instruments capable of conveying the extraordinary media production of National Geographic and delivering it to the users in a highly interactive manner.
A number of screens, for example, offer to the public the opportunity to follow live some of the ongoing National Geographic missions around the world, while the rest of the IT system provides regular information about NG through the use of media featuring the latest technology, such as high definition screens and sound systems.

The Exhibition Gallery is set with a flexible hanging display system, integrated with a floor-to-ceiling movable aluminum poles support grid, as in a photographer studio.

Concept and development for the new ADV Furla.
Inspired by Charles Lindberg first schematic airplane representations, the ADV represents all the representative Furla bags through 80 icons.
Competition entry for the “International Competition for the redevelopment of the Rock Island pier in Rimini”.
The tip of the pier has become an icon, signifying the vanishing point of Rimini that stretches from the sea.
At least twenty years Rock Island is beacon of humid summer nights, the last safe outpost.
This is the atmosphere in which Fellini had seduced the whole world, with the “Vitelloni” at the end of the pier.
The proposal is developed around the analogy of a large dock that comes alive at the end of the sea, rising spiral below it, the volumes and masses recall translucent vessels stranded on the rocks and shovel.

Research study for the realization of a Mobile Clinic. The project is designed to deliver a pro-active approach in providing treatment for basic treatable diseases, life-saving vaccinations and therapy and care for persons living with HIV/AIDS.
The mobile clinics have the capacity to relocate without difficulty, allowing for increased patient care coverage. The clinics will enable USDFA to treat several thousand patients every month and to provide capacity-building in communities by training thousands of local medical professionals.

Twenty three artists have been invited to establish a dialogue with an industrial building in the process of transformation.
Its future involves the creation of an exhibition space and various units (lofts, ateliers, workshops) sharing services and common facilities.
The Milanese contemporary art collector, Elena Quarestani, commissioned April to fully analyse and create an architectural project for the transformation of the ex-typography GEA, 4,000 square metres of industrial space located in the Palmanova area of Milan. Concept, editing and production of the publication “Cantiere d’Arte Contemporanea Remo Salvadori” a book-diary containing the testimony and outline of the experience.
The is a research project in interdisciplinary collaboration promoted and supported by the Tuscan Region and the European Community. Generated and guided by the artist, Remo Salvadori, coordinated by the architect Francesco Tiribelli, founder of APRIL, the project aims at defining new ways to approach contemporary art-making through various forms of collective expression.

The “Cantiere d’Arte Contemporanea Remo Salvadori” is a research project in interdisciplinary collaboration promoted and supported by the Tuscan Region and the European Community. Generated and guided by the artist, Remo Salvadori, coordinated by the architect Francesco Tiribelli, founder of APRIL, the project aims at defining new ways to approach contemporary art-making through various forms of collective expression. The project which involved 21 young artists of diverse extraction, resulted in the transformation of some of the rooms of San Quirico d’Orcia’s Palazzo Chigi, into environments for the permanent works created there. The material was transported to New York and distributed throughout the Prada Broadway store in New York.
We collected hours of footage from a massive shopping mall in the Beijing periphery. The material was formatted and displayed throughout the New York Prada store to create a programmatic wormhole, a parallel universe.

Forte Marghera

Proposal for the redevelopment of the Marghera Port area, ancient outpost of the Venetian lagoon city which is ideally linked to the mainland. The project foresees a gradual setting in motion of the site by alternating cultural activities and planning; a cultural building-site overlapping with a structural building-site, making use of ways of planning by the direct involvement of artists, architects, specialists in environmental planning and other professionals from diversified fields.
New Stories New Design

APRIL and Cibic&Partners jointed hands for the creation of “New Stories New Design”, an international research cum exhibition project which aims to explore the role of industrial design in contributing to the economic regeneration of marginalised communities , with particular focus on the migrant population in Italian urban settings. The project, implemented in collaboration with the Domus Academy and the Polytechnic of Milan, was selected and included in several international exhibitions, such as the International Design Fair onf Milan (2002), the Biennale of Art of Venice (2004) and the Biennale of Art of Shanghai (2006).

April members collaborated with OMA/ AMO to produce a vast content digital video archive collected through documentation and research It is organized into categories and assembled into themed sequences. Approximately 80 hours of footage from across the Prada universe; production, shipping, offices, fashion shows, events, was captured.
The material was displayed at the opening of the Prada epicenter store on Broadway in New York. The work was performed by AMO project team at OMA.
